Associate
Matt is an associate attorney at Mahoney, Silverman & Cross, LLC. He represents municipalities and government agencies in civil and criminal litigation and advises municipalities on matters involving municipal and DUI law.
Municipal Prosecution
Matt represents municipalities in prosecuting petty and misdemeanor traffic offenses charged under the municipalities’ codes of ordinances. He specializes in prosecuting driving under the influence offenses. Matt is well-versed in DUI law and routinely goes up against prominent DUI-defense attorneys. He understands the various issues law-enforcement agencies face in prosecuting DUIs and the strategies defense attorneys use to defend their clients. As a result, Matt can accurately evaluate cases and advise law-enforcement agencies, resolve cases efficiently, and obtain convictions.
Civil Litigation
Matt also represents municipalities in civil litigation. Matt’s civil practice focuses on enforcement actions brought against homeowners and businesses for violations of municipal ordinances. He has experience in obtaining injunctive relief, such as temporary restraining orders and permanent injunctions. Matt has successfully litigated numerous cases involving violations of local zoning and business ordinances, helping municipalities remedy problems that burden their respective communities.
Appellate Litigation
As part of his appellate practice, Matt represented the State of Illinois in appeals brought under the Pretrial Fairness Act. Matt can efficiently review voluminous trial court records and isolate issues that occurred during those proceedings. His ability to research and brief those issues resulted in dozens of pretrial detention orders being affirmed by the appellate courts, keeping violent and dangerous offenders in custody while their cases were pending.
