R. Peter Grometer
Counsel to the Firm
R. Peter Grometer was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. He attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business in 1968. He received his J.D. from the University of Illinois in 1973. Peter served in the United States Army from 1969 through 1972. After law school, Peter returned to Aurora and practiced with the law firm of Alschuler, Putnam, McWethy, Funkey and Grometer from 1973 to 1985.
In 1985 Peter was appointed an Associate Circuit Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit which encompasses Kane, Kendall and DeKalb Counties, Illinois. In 1992, he was elected Circuit Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit and served as its Chief Judge from 1996 to 1998. In 2001, Peter was appointed Justice of Illinois Appellate Court, Second District and served as member of the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Appellate Court Workers’ Compensation Division until 2009. Peter retired from the Illinois Appellate Court in 2009.
Peter is a past president and member of the Aurora Rotary Club, Past President and Director of Mental Health and Mental Rehabilitation, Inc., Director of Aurora Juvenile Protective Association, District Governor of the Boy Scouts of America and a former member of the Board of Education of School District 129.
Peter is Counsel to the Firm and chairs the firm’s Appellate Practice Group which includes three attorneys who have clerked for Justices of the Illinois Appellate Court and a United States District Court Judge. Peter’s practice area includes Appellate Practice and Business and Corporate Transactional Law, Litigation and Mediation.
